The Rock isn't the only people's champion in wrestling theses days. Grappling fans are prettyfond of another warrior, and that's Diamond
Dallas Paige.
Page is a true-to-life wrestling success story as he's climbed his way up through the wrestling ranks from the very bottom to the very
top. Although he didn't physically wrestle in the ring until 1991 with World Championship Wrestling, he was involved in the mat antics
since 1998, when he was the manager of a duo called Bad Company (Paul Diamond and Pat Tanaka) in the AWA. Before moving on to Florida
Championship Wrestling, Page would guide his team to the World Tag team title.
While with the FCW, the 6'5", New Jersey native not only continued managing, he also tried his luck at color commentating. He found success
on both stages, being respected by his fellow wrestlers, which included Johnny Ace, Bam Bam Bigelow, and Dick Slater and also teaming at
ringside with the legendary announcer Gordon Solie.
In 1999 DDP got the call from WCW to come onboard as a manager for a tag team known as The Freebirds, and he immediately accepted. By Febuary
of 1991, The Freebirds (Michael Hayes and Jimmy Garvin) were wearing champioship gold around their waists and they had only Page to thank. Before
stepping between the ropes himself, he took another young stud under his wing in Diamond Stud (Scott Hall) and showed him the ropes.
Being the competitor that he was, DDP could no longer be content with being so close yet so far from the action, so he turned over a new
page in his career and entered the ring as a full-time grappler later in 1991. He quickly became popular on the mat scene and enjoyed being
associated with beautiful people such as Vinnie Vegas (Kevin Nash), Scotty Flamingo (Raven), and of course his "Diamond Dolls," several gorgeous
women who would escort Dallas to the ring. One of these beautiful gals, Kimberly Falkenburg, became his one and only in real life, as the two
wrestling personalities were married a short time after meeting.
Although he took the scenic route getting inside the squared circle action, Page proved that he had what it took to take on the best of the best.
Whether he was wrestling as a cigar-smoking scoundrel or bettling the federation's nasty boys, the nWo, the former manager never disappointed
his fans while in the ring. He had memorable feuds with Goldberg, Ric Flair, and Randy "Macho Man" Savage. He also teamed with Karl Malone and
Jay Leno at one time and grappled against the NBA's bad boy, Dennis Rodman.
Page has made all his opponents "feel the bang" at one time or another and has a pretty good trail of championship gold to back up his efforts. The
7-time title winner has won the WCW World Heavyweight title twice, the WCW U.S. title twice, the the tag-team belt twice, and the TV title once in
his career. Not bad for someone who started on the outside looking in as a manager.
The former high school and basketball standout is all about overcoming the odds in his life. Not only did he climb the ladder in the wrestling world,
but he was also able to overcome dyslexia to conquer his fear of reading as a child. He and his wife, Kimberly, are very active in his charity,
Bang it Out for Books, which helps kids fight illiteracy and promotes reading.
This is a man, good or bad, who will make you take notice. "You love me [or] you hate me, [but] you'll never forget me," Page says. True, how true.
