Believe it or not, Kane has played both a heel and a face in his time wrestling for the WWF. But with his
enormous size, physique, costume, and gimmick, he is far better suited to his demonic role.
The 7 foot grappler, who is the long-lost brother of the Undertaker, stormed onto the WWF scene on Monday,
October 5, 1997, when he made a surprise appearance during one of his brother's matches at an event entitled
Badd Blood. Kane would help his brother's opponent, Shawn "Boy Toy" Michaels, escape the Hell in the Cell match
with a victory that night as the mosorous wrestler tore off the door of the cage to get to his brother.
Once Kane was inside the cell, he took it upon himself to confront and choke slam his confused brother. This
violent act would not only stun the crowd and the 'Taker, it would also allow Michaels to get the pin and win
as he had been getting manhandled by the dark warrior from pillar to post before Kane interfered in the contest.
This would be the only the start of Kane's havoc-wreaking on the federation. Under the guidance of Paul Bearer,
the Undertaker's former mentor, Kane would interfere in numerous matches on Raw Is War broadcasts, causing chaos
throuout the entire WWF.
One of his attack victims was Dude Love, who experinced Kane's wrath and choke slam firsthand on Raw. As a result
the grappler was knocked out of action. This would set up Kane's first real match in the federation against Mankind,
who was slated to go to war against the out-of-control wrestler to try and get revenge on the Big red Machine for
taking out his alter ego, Love.
But the battle of the masked warriors would not wind up in Mankind's favor. Kane defeated the grappler courtesy of
his treacherous tombstone pile driver. Many were trying and many were failing in their efforts to stop the seemingly
unstoppable creature. Kane seemed to be able to do whatever he wanted, whever he wanted, to whomever he wanted.
But his rage was aimed mostly at his "brother" who supposedly had set their house on fire, "killing" their "parents"
and him in the process. Obviously, kane had survived and the only question that remained to be answered was how far
would he go in order to get back at his brother?
Kane would again interfere that year in one of his brother's matches. This time The Undertaker was squaring off against
Jeff Jarret. Although Kane's interference didn't allow his brother to lose this time, it actually helped him win, he
still managed to brutally attack his sibling afterward. But The Undertaker stated that he would not fight his own flesh
and blood.
The sick and sadistic would occur at the 1998 Royal rumble main event match, where The Undertaker would again square off
against Shawn Michaels. During the contest, which was labeled a casket match, many wrestlers came from backstage to try
and help Michaels get the win over his towering opponent, but none were successful. Finally, when The Undertaker had become
totally outnumbered in the ring, his brother Kane came to the rescue, Or did he?
Once the ring was cleared of the attacker, Kane went on to the offesive and began laying the smack down again on his
surprised brother, stuffing him in the casket. Enter Paul Bearer, who helped The Big red Machine lock his brother into the
death box, rolling it away from the squared circle. The 2 mmaniacs the stopped in front of the wrestler's entrance, and Kane
climbed up on top of the casket, ax in hand, and began chopping away. While he sliced and diced, Bearer got a hold of some
gasoline and matches and handed them over to his monster.
Kane then doused the casket in the ignitable fluid and proceeded to get revenge on The Undertaker by sending him back to his
maker in hell. Or did he?
Right before Wrestlemania XIV, The Undertaker would appear on Raw Is War , setting up a grudge match between the 2 brothers. The
Undertaker was now ready and willing to take on his own fleash and blood.
The "Taker would get revenge on his broat "Mania, who tombstoned him twice to no avail, as The Undertaker took him out with a
lethal pile driver for the win.
The 2 siblings would do battle many times over after this, including an inferno match where The Undertaker won by setting his
brother ablaze. But while Kane loved battling with his brother, he also wanted to take home some gold.
He would win the federation's most coveted belt, the World Heavyweight Championship title--even though his reign only lasted
24 hours-- in a match on June 28, 1998, at The King of The Ring tournament against "Stone Cold" Stev Austin in Pittsburgh,
Pennsylvania. The Big Red Machine has also been a teg-team belt winner 3 times in his career.
Kane would also turn corporate for a while, beeing at one time the main bodyguard for Vince McMahon. While he was one of McMahon's
best back-watchers ever, he was still more valuable and effective as a prime-time player between the ropes.
The guess here is that Kane will become an even bigger monster in the ring and will be a top contender for the title for a long
time to come, and once he gets it, watch out, because his reign will no doubt last longer than 24-hours next time around.
